So i've been thinking about getting my 2008 Nissan Altima tinted, so I went and did some reading online and the more i read the more confused i get about the PA tint limits.
So what exactly is the deal with 70% limit?? Is it really illegal to get tinting below 70% in PA? Because all i read about here is people getting tints at 30%, 20%, etc. javascript:add("%20???") Huh

the law is 70% on ANY PART of the car(sedan or coupe)...anything darker is illegal..but you cannot fail inspection for it in PA(unless its on the windshield or mirrored tint)..most cops dont worry about tint unless its really dark, but nothing is guarenteed...thats why we always explain the law to every customer, help them appreciate that we are legally allowed to install the tint, its the customers responsibilty for what is on their vehicle..

In your honest opinion, is it even worth it to get 70%? I'd like to go with 40% but I have terrible luck and will most likely get a ticket as soon as I drive off your lot.

i have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for 40%, yet it COULD happen...most cops dont care about tint that light.

Thanks. turns out the 70% isn't even state law, it's just a suggestion. The law just states that the tint cannot be dark enough to inhibit the driver's vision or the ability to see into the car from the outside. 40% should not prevent either, right? This is an awesome reference: www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/Thanks again for the quick response.

Guys, LOOK and READ the law.
TITLE 75 Section 4524 (e)(1) of the Pennsylvania Common Statutes states that
(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.
They can ticket you all you want but you can beat it in court.
The law says that an officer must be able to view the interior of a vehicle from either the front windshield, wing window or side windows. NOT ALL OF THE ABOVE!
If your windshield is clear, then you are 100% LEGAL!
Technically, you can spray paint your windows BLACK if you like, as long as you can walk up to the car and see in it, then it is legal.
the problem is, the cops are too stupid to actually read the law and just want to write tickets.
Maybe the person that wrote the law is an idiot, but I see an 'OR' in there and not an 'AND'
now you can tell that cop to stick the tint law up his ass.

If you're concerned about Pennsylvania's laws regarding window tint, check out this article I came across today about a guy who fought a tint ticket and won using the law that silent dub posted above. www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2010/07/dillsburg_man_appeals_window_t.htmlMore info you may find useful: I have several colleagues and a couple of friends who are police officers including a PA State Trooper. I've asked them about my tint and the response is pretty much universal that you're probably not going to get hassled if you're not acting suspiciously or like a jackass. I've been pulled over twice in different cars with 30% tint on them and neither officer said a word about the tint. A lot of it comes down to an officer's feeling of safety. If you're pulled over, roll down your window and hang one arm out the window while keeping the other at 12 o'clock on the wheel. If it's dark, turn on your dome light because the inside of your car can be seen (true even with the 20% all around I have now). If you're cool about it and make an effort to show the officer that you're not going to try anything, you stand a better chance of the tint going unnoticed. If you're pulled over FOR your tint... well, see the article above.

i hate to burst anyone's bubble but my son was using my car while his was in shop being repaired for a out of town conference and he was cited with operating an unsafe vehicle CODE 4107 b (2) Operate, or cause or permit another person to operate, on any highway in this Commonwealth any vehicle or combination which is not equipped as required under this part or under department regulations or when the driver is in violation of department regulations or the vehicle or combination is otherwise in an unsafe condition or in violation of department regulations. /WINDOW TINT I plan to fight this, but until so , i am leery about much of this turmoil in this state from one town to the next. the law is clear but LEO seem to think there is a loophole in fining people for illegal tint regardless how clear the law about tinting seems to be.. how do people still get tickets this is not the first one in our family either my other son got one for 36% HE Removed it but i do not plan to remove it as i am going to be moving to Fl or Tx and i will need it there I will be moving within a year or two ..not worth removing it when i drive less than 200 miles in a year. IF people keep paying these tickets without second guessing them then it will be easier and easier to take another "right" away from everyone..
