I'm cross-posting this at Tristate Tuners as well, figure I'll give this message big visibility for you guys cuz I'd love to get rolling on this:
Since you guys did my tails, the time has come for me to get my headlights done by actual pros. The catch? I would like to do something very one-off and custom with the shape of the tint. I found out last night that headlight tint + night time + unmodified light output + rain = zero visibility at night and a scary drive home...
The issue I'm running into is that I'm finding out that modifying/replacing the ballast for higher light output really isn't going to happen, thanks to the unique way the stock headlights work (you have to see it in person, you'll laugh your ass off I promise). The best thing I can do is replace my D2R bulbs with D2S bulbs to get maybe 10-20% more light output from the bulbs themselves. This isn't nearly enough to overcome the huge amount which the tint darkens my headlights.
That being said, I just LOVE the tint look on the front of my car, and I especially like getting rid of the yellow from the turn indicators. A couple ideas came my way from some buddies of mine on a Volvo tuning forum. Here are some photoshopped ideas for custom cut tint on the headlights:
First idea: pretty straightforward, cut the tint off in such a way that it follows the lines of the hood straight down to the top of the bumper.
Second idea: much trickier yet much more desirable and unique than the first one above, involves cutting the tint so it follows the lines inside the headlight housing to allow full light output while preserving as much tint as possible around the headlight itself.
Let me know if either idea is feasible and if you guys would like to give it a try. Also, let me know how much time is required and what you guys think you'd charge for this. I'm available early Wednesday mornings and need to be in Abington by approximately 1:30 PM. I would like to do this before the end of the month if possible.
